Image Compression

Estimated reading: 2 minutes 2 views

Image Compression reduces image file size while keeping the same image URL, helping pages load faster without requiring manual link updates.

Where to find it: Shopify Admin → Apps → Firefly Sky SEO → Image Compression.

Choose image quality

  • Automatic – 92%: balanced default and the recommended starting point.
  • High – 80%: stronger compression with high visual quality.
  • Medium – 70%: greater savings; inspect detail-heavy product images.
  • Low – 50%: aggressive compression and higher visual risk.
  • Custom: use when you have a tested quality target.

Compress images

  1. Choose Scan images to refresh the image list.
  2. Select a quality level.
  3. Use individual checkboxes for a controlled batch, or select Optimize all now.
  4. Review the before/after sizes and savings percentage.
  5. Use the comparison preview to inspect visual quality.

Read the report

The report shows total images, optimized images, original size, optimized size, and cumulative savings. “Already optimal” means the file does not benefit from further compression.

Keep a recovery path: Firefly Sky SEO retains originals for restoration. Use Restore all originals only when you intend to roll back the complete optimized set.

Best practices

  • Start with Automatic and test representative product, lifestyle, and text-heavy images.
  • Check mobile product pages after a large batch.
  • Combine compression with useful Alt text and sensible image dimensions.
  • Re-scan after importing a new catalog or adding a large media batch.
