Sitemap, Redirects and Noindex
Sitemap Manager, Redirects, and Noindex Rules work together to control discovery, URL changes, and indexation.
Sitemap Manager
Shopify’s default sitemap is available at /sitemap.xml. Use View live Sitemap to inspect it or Download sitemap.xml for review. Sitemap Manager displays included and excluded entries and can manage priority and change frequency where supported.
Native redirects
Use Shopify-native redirects for URLs that no longer exist. Add a source path and target URL, then test the source in a private browser window. Native redirects are the preferred option because they are standard server-side redirects and transfer SEO signals more reliably.
Force redirects
Force Redirects are intended for exceptional cases where the source page still exists. They require the Firefly Sky SEO app embed and run after the page loads. Because they are script-based rather than standard server-side 301 redirects, use them only when a native redirect cannot work.
Noindex Rules
- Open Noindex Rules.
- Enter an exact path such as
/cart, or a prefix wildcard such as/policies/*. - Add an optional note and save the rule.
- Enable the Firefly Sky SEO app embed so the injected robots meta tag can take effect.
Common candidates include cart, search results, account pages, checkout paths, and empty collections. Policy pages are optional; some merchants keep them indexed for trust.
Access controls
The Redirects area also supports optional rules for visitor location, bot traffic, AI crawlers, and VPN/proxy signals. Search-engine crawler blocking is off by default to protect indexing. Enable such controls only when you understand the traffic and SEO impact.
