Image Alt Text Optimizer automatically loads your Shopify image catalog, finds missing alternative text, and can generate accessible descriptions in your chosen language with AI.

Automatic catalog sync

You do not need to run a manual image scan. When you open the optimizer or switch between Products, Collections, Blogs, File library, and All, Firefly Sky SEO refreshes that category in the background. Existing results remain available while the refresh runs, and the list updates automatically when it finishes.

The output language defaults to your Shopify store’s primary language. Use the searchable language picker to select any other supported world language or locale before optimizing.

What does “Download all images” download?

Download all images creates one ZIP archive from the image records currently synchronized by Firefly Sky SEO. Images are organized into separate folders for products, collections, blog content, and the Shopify file library, so the archive is easier to review and reuse than a flat list of files.

Why is it useful?

• Store migration: collect the Shopify images known to the app before moving to another store, platform, or theme.
• Offline backup: keep a dated local copy of image assets in case a resource is changed or removed later.
• Organized handoff: send product, collection, blog, and file-library images to developers, designers, or content teams in clearly separated folders.
• Bulk recovery: avoid saving thousands of images manually, one page at a time.

Recommended migration workflow

1. Allow automatic catalog sync to finish for the relevant image categories.
2. Run Scan storefront references to identify file-library images currently referenced by public storefront pages.
3. Review the Frontend referenced and Frontend unreferenced results before migration.
4. Choose Download all images to create the ZIP archive, then review the File library folder before importing it elsewhere.

Current behavior: Download all images packages all synchronized image records and does not apply the table’s search, category, format, or reference-status filters. Storefront-reference results help you decide which file-library images are still useful; they do not automatically delete or exclude files from the ZIP.

What does “Scan storefront references” mean?

The automatic catalog sync lists images stored in Shopify. Some file-library images may be old, unpublished, duplicated, or no longer used by the current theme. Scan storefront references is an optional second pass that crawls public storefront URLs from your sitemap and marks which file-library images are actually referenced by rendered storefront pages.

Why use it?

• Protect AI credits: filter to referenced images before batch optimization so credits are not spent on abandoned library files.
• Prioritize visible content: optimize images shoppers and search engines can currently encounter first.
• Clean up safely: identify likely unused files without deleting or changing any image.
• Recheck after changes: run it again after publishing a new theme or making large storefront content updates.

Recommended workflow

1. Open a resource tab and allow the automatic catalog sync to finish.
2. Optionally run Scan storefront references, then filter by reference status.
3. Choose the output language, optimization scope, image type, and reference status.
4. For the safest first run, select Images missing Alt only.
5. Choose Batch optimize, then review results in the table.
6. Use Edit for a manual correction or Revert to restore the original Alt text.

Filters and statuses

Use Products, Collections, Blogs, File library, or All tabs. You can filter by format and storefront-reference status, search by filename or resource, sort by update time or optimization state, and separate active from draft resources.

Writing useful Alt text

• Describe the image’s purpose and visible subject concisely.
• Include a product name or relevant detail only when it helps understanding.
• Avoid “image of,” keyword stuffing, file names, and promotional claims.
• Decorative images may use empty Alt text when appropriate.

Recovery and history

Use View optimization history to audit prior changes. Revert all optimized restores optimized records in bulk; review scope carefully before using it.
